Financial Assistance for Anthropologists Outside of the U.S. or Canada, or Non-Anthropologists >> The options below are for anthropologists outside of the U.S. or Canada, or for non-anthropologists. Anthropologists within the U.S. and Canada are ineligible for either of the below options.
Membership Exemption Nullification of membership requirement (upon request until March 29): Anthropologists outside of the U.S. or Canada, or non-anthropologists, may request a Membership Exemption, but meeting registration is still required. Membership exemptions must be requested by Thursday, March 29. An exemption from the membership requirement does not provide a complimentary membership and it does not annul the payment of a meeting registration fee. The deadline to request a Membership Exemption expired on Thursday, March 29. From this point forward, any individual(s) wishing to participate on an Annual Meeting panel or abstract submission MUST join AAA *and* pay the Annual Meeting registration fee, no exceptions.**
Program Chair Waiver Assistance with registration fee and nullification of membership requirement (upon request until March 29): For Anthropologists outside of the U.S. or Canada, or non-anthropologists, financial assistance with registration may be requested through the completion of a Program Chair Waiver application, which expired on March 29.
AAA has a limited number of Program Chair Guest Registration Waivers available. To qualify, the applicant must either be a non-anthropologist who brings a different perspective to the meeting, or an anthropologist who lives outside the U.S. or Canada. Waiver recipients will receive a meeting registration to the 117th AAA Annual Meeting in San Jose, CA, and a membership exemption. Travel and lodging costs are the responsibility of recipients, and the completion of an application does not guarantee selection as a recipient. All applications will be reviewed by our 2018 AAA Program Chair, Jason de Leon. The deadline to complete the registration waiver expired on March 29, 2018. >> Waiver accept/decline notifications will be sent on April 9, 2018.
Undergraduate Student Opportunities >> Undergraduate students may apply to volunteer at the Annual Meeting to have their registration fees reimbursed. The Undergraduate Student Volunteer Applicationwill open in August, and not everyone who applies will be accepted. Students to present at the Annual Meeting must still be registered (and AAA members) by the April 16 (3:00 pm Eastern) deadline in order to remain on submissions and be considered for the Annual Meeting program.
