Call for Executive Sessions (January 17 - February 15 at 3 pm Eastern) Executive Sessions are reviewed and selected directly by the AAA Executive Program Committee (EPC). These sessions speak directly to 2018's Annual Meeting theme,Change in the Anthropological Imagination: Resistance, Resilience, and Adaptation, and will be showcased throughout the Annual Meeting. Selection and participation in AAA executive sessions is highly competitive. Executive Session submissions are for fully-formed panels only. Below, please read more about the session formats available for Executive Session consideration. By Monday, April 16 at 3:00 pm Eastern, every participant included in the proposal must be registered to attend the AAA Annual Meeting and an active AAA member. Accept/decline notifications will be sent to submitters the week of March 12 (via email). Submitters who were not accepted as Executive Sessions will have the opportunity to resubmit under the main call for papers (due April 16 at 3 pm Eastern).
Executive Session - Flash Presentation >> Submission Period: Tuesday, January 17 through Thursday, February 15 at 3 pm EST Flash presentations are a rapid-fire, engaging performance of current projects/concepts via a few image rich slides and dynamic spoken content. Total presentation time is a speedy five (5) minutes per presenter. Submissions should present work in progress and/or upcoming projects. They are poetry delivered with a punch. Proposals can be submitted as a panel of up to 10-15 presenters and discussants. Remaining session time will be used for a moderated discussion.
Executive Session - Roundtable >> Submission Period: Tuesday, January 17 through Thursday, February 15 at 3 pm EST Roundtables are panel discussions with audience participation that do NOT include papers or timed 15-minute presentations.
If you are looking to submit a panel for Annual Meeting consideration and your presenters do NOT have abstracts, this is the session type for you.
Executive Session - Oral Presentation Session >> Submission Period: Tuesday, January 17 through Thursday, February 15 at 3 pm EST Oral Presentation Sessions are panel discussions that include seven (7), 15-minute timeslots for paper presentations and/or moderated discussion. Submissions must be submitted as fully formed panels.
If you are looking to submit a panel for Annual Meeting consideration and your presenters have individual abstracts, this is the session type for you.

Anthropologists outside of the U.S. or Canada, or non-anthropologists, may request a Membership Exemption, but meeting registration is still required. Membership exemptions must be requested by Thursday, March 29. For financial assistance with registration, please complete the Program Chair Waiver application prior to Thursday, March 29. The completion of an application does not guarantee a waiver will be awarded.

Elimination of double sessions: The task force discontinued double sessions in 2014 to standardize the time unit for panels and address scheduling burdens. However, organizers can submit a series of single sessions (i.e. Part I, Part II) that will be individually reviewed and ranked by its merit. Part II may be accepted while Part I may not. The Executive Program Committee (EPC) will make every effort to ensure that accepted in part series are scheduled in proper order, but can't make guarantees.
AAA CFP online submission portal: As with the 2017 Annual Meeting Call for Papers, AAA is continuing to use an online portal powered by our vendor, CadmiumCD. All sessions and items for consideration of inclusion in the 2018 AAA Annual Meeting program MUST be submitted through this online portal -- no exceptions. Submission deadlines and time stamps: It is very important that submitters pay attention to all dates and time stamps outlined on this page and throughout the online submission portal. If a time stamp is listed, such as 3:00 pm Eastern, that is a hard deadline and the online portal will not allow any entries after that time.
