Job Seeker | FAQs

Q. Will I be able to set up an interview with an employer?

A. Job seekers should not contact employers directly to set up interviews. If you are interested in a position, follow the instructions in the employers job posting. They will then follow up with selected applicants in advance of the meeting to set up interviews.

You will have the opportunity to apply online for job positions at the interview center. Please feel free to block out some time during the annual meeting to apply for any open positions.

Q. Will I be able to arrange interviews at the meeting?

A. You will not be able to arrange interviews unless an employer plans to hold open interviews during the annual meeting. Open interviews may be listed on the interview schedule or you may check at the interview center.

Please be aware that very few employers conduct open interviews during the annual meeting. All employers listed on the interview schedule (unless indicated as open interviews) are scheduled interviews with pre-selected candidates.

Q.  Should I bring my CV?

A. Yes, please bring your CV for employers who are conducting open interviews during the annual meeting. You can leave your CV in the folder designated for the employer who has scheduled open interviews at the interview center. We will not collect CVs for employers who have not scheduled open interview sessions and CVs will not be collected for employers who have already scheduled interviews (unless specifically requested by the employer).

We recommend uploading your resume on the ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment job board and applying online for open positions so that employers at the annual meeting may search our database of resumes, review your qualifications, and determine if your qualification meets their needs.

You will have the opportunity to apply for job positions posted on the ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment job board at the interview center for a chance to interview with employers who are conducting open interview sessions. Feel free to block out some time during the annual meeting to apply for the open positions.

Q.  Do all interviews take place in the annual meeting interview center?

A. No. Some employers conduct interviews in a suite or other space of their choosing. When you finalize your interview arrangements with an employer, make sure the interview location has been agreed upon. AAA can only verify location information for interviews occurring in the interview center.

Employer | FAQs

Q. I have a position that I want to interview for at the annual meeting. How do I find job seekers?

A. Employers must first post their position on the ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment job board and contact job seekers of interest to see if they plan to attend the annual meeting.

Q. I posted my ad on the ACE job board. When will it be posted?

A. Your ad will be posted within 24 hours (Ads placed after 3PM EST will be posted on the next business day). Candidates who request job alerts will receive a daily digest of new job postings.

Q. How do I set up an interview with a job seeker?

A. Employers are encouraged to contact candidates in advance of the meeting to set up interviews so that both parties can arrange their interview schedules along with meeting itineraries.

Q. Will I be able to arrange interviews at the meeting?

A. Yes. Employers are encouraged to speak with as many candidates as can be reasonably scheduled. Please indicate on the reservation form if you are interested in open interview sessions or visit the interview center at the annual meeting. Job seekers are encouraged to visit the interview center to see if there will be any open interviews scheduled.

Q. What are the interview center hours?

A. The ACE Interview Center will be open during the following times: Thursday 9AM - 5PM, Friday 9AM - 5PM, and Saturday 9AM - 2PM.

Q. I reserved an interview booth at the annual meeting but I don't see a booth number assigned to my institution.

A.  To reduce confusion and to allow for onsite adjustments, employers will be assigned to their booth during daily check-in at the interview center.

Q. When should I solicit letters of recommendation?

A.  Solicitation of letters of recommendations should occur only after an initial screening of candidates to minimize any inconvenience.

Q.  Can I review CVs onsite?

A. We encourage applicants to upload their resume to ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment job board. If you are interested in reviewing CVs, please click here. Employers with an active job post can search resumes for free. Those without an active job posting must pay a fee.

Applicants are encouraged to indicate that they are attending the annual meeting so that employers may connect with them in person.

Job seekers can leave their CV at the interview center in the designated folder of the employers scheduled to have open interviews. We will not collect CVs for employers who have not scheduled open interview sessions. CVs will not be collected for employers who have already scheduled interviews unless specifically requested by the employer.

Q.  How do I arrange an interview with job seekers while I am onsite at the meeting?

A. We ask that employers reserve open interview sessions in advance of the annual meeting or visit the interview center at the annual meeting to schedule time. If space permits, we may add you to the schedule for open interviews. Job seekers are asked to visit the interview center to see if open interviews have been scheduled and to leave their CVs in the designated folder of the employers who plan to conduct open interviews.

Q.  I have scheduled a Skype interview for a candidate that is not able to attend the annual meeting. Can we host a Skype interview in our booth at the interview center?

A. No. Due to the room setup, we need to be considerate of the noise level and courteous to other employers interviews. Out of respect for all parties, we ask that Skype interviews be conducted outside of the interview center.

Q.  Do all interviews take place in the annual meeting interview center?

A. No. Some employers have a suite or other space of their choosing to conduct interviews. We encourage you to inform AAA staff if this is the case.

We are striving to improve the service we provide both online and at the meeting. Your input is valuable, so please feel free to pass along suggestions. Questions? Email: members@americananthro.org.
