Job Seeker | FAQs

Q. Will I be able to set up an interview with an employer?

A. Job seekers are encouraged to not contact employers directly to set up an interview. If you are interested in a position, follow the instructions in the employers job posting.  Employers will be in touch with selected applicants in advance of the meeting to set up  interviews so that both parties can arrange their interview schedules  along with meeting itineraries.

You will have the opportunity to apply online for job positions at the career center at the annual meeting. Please feel free to block out some time during the annual meeting to apply for the open positions.

Q. Will I be able to arrange interviews at the meeting?

A.  You will not be able to arrange interviews at the meeting unless an employer indicates that they plan to hold "open interviews" during the annual meeting. Open interviews may be listed on the advanced interview schedule or you may check at the career center at the annual meeting.

In the past, very few employers have conducted open interviews during the annual meeting.  All employers listed on the interview schedule (unless indicated as "open interviews") are scheduled interviews with pre-selected candidates.

Q.  Should I bring my CV?

A.  Yes, please bring your CV for review by employers who are conducting "open interviews" during the annual meeting. You can leave your CV at the annual meeting career center in the folder for the employer who has scheduled "open interviews". We will not collect CVs for those employers who have not scheduled "open interview" sessions. CVs will not be collected for employers who have already scheduled interviews unless specifically requested by the employer.

We encourage job seekers to upload your resume on the ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment Job Board so that employers who are not conducting open interviews at the annual meeting may search our database to see if your qualification meets their needs.

We also encourage job seekers to apply online for open positions as that is the best way for employers to review your qualifications.

You will have the opportunity to apply for job positions that are posted on the ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment Job Board at the annual meeting career center. So feel free to block out some time during the annual meeting to apply for the open positions.

Q.  Do all interviews take place in the career center?

A.  No.  Some employers will have a suite or other space of their choosing  to conduct interviews.  When you finalize your interview arrangements  with an employer, make sure that the actual place for the interview has  been agreed upon.  AAA will try to show the location of career center  interviews occurring in the space provided, but employers using their  own suites do not necessarily inform us of their location.

Employer | FAQs

Q. I have a position that I want to interview for at the annual meeting. How do I find job seekers?

A.  Employers must first post their position on the  ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment Job Board.  Then contact job seekers of interest to see if they plan to attend the  annual conference.

Q. I posted my ad on the ACE Job Board. When will it be posted

A. Your ad will be posted within 24 hours (Ads placed after 3pm EST will be posted on the next business day). Candidates who requested a job alert receive a daily digest of new job postings.

Q. How do I set up an interview with a job seeker?

A.  Employers are encouraged to contact candidates in advance of the  meeting to set up interviews so that both parties can arrange their  interview schedules along with meeting itineraries.

Q. Will I be able to arrange interviews at the meeting?

A.  Yes.  Employers are encouraged to speak with as many candidates as can be reasonably scheduled. Please reserve "open interview" sessions with AAA in advance of the annual meeting or visit the career center at the annual meeting. Job seekers are encouraged to visit the career center to check to see if there will be any open interviews scheduled.

Q. What are the Career Center hours?

A. The Career Center will be opened during the following times: Thursday 9 - 5, Friday 9 - 6, and Saturday 9-3

Q. I reserved an interview booth at the annual meeting but I don't see a booth number assigned to my institution.

A.  In the past, we have assigned booth numbers but to reduce confusion and to allow for onsite adjustments, employers will be assigned their booth during daily check-in at the Career Center.

Q. When should I solicit letters of recommendation?

A.  Solicitation of letters of recommendations should occur only after an  initial screening of candidates to minimize any inconvenience.

Q.  Can I review CVs onsite?

A.   We encourage applicants to upload their resume to ACE: Anthropology Careers & Employment Job Board. If you are interested in reviewing CVs, please click here. Applicants who are attending the annual meeting are encouraged to indicate that they are attending the annual meeting so that you may connect with them in person.

Job seekers can leave their CV at the annual meeting career center in the folder for employers who have scheduled "open interviews". We will not collect CVs for those employers who have not scheduled "open interview" sessions. CVs will not be collected for employers who have already scheduled interviews unless specifically requested by the employer.

Q.  How do I arrange an interview with job seekers while I am onsite at the meeting?

A.   We ask that employers try to reserve "open interview" sessions with AAA in advance of the annual meeting or visit the career center at the annual meeting to schedule time (space permitting). If space permits, you may check to see if AAA has open slots available for "open interviews". Job seekers are asked to visit the career center to see if open interviews have been scheduled and to leave their CVs in the folder of the employers who plan to conduct "open interviews".

Q.  I have scheduled a Skype interview for a candidate that is not able to attend the annual meeting. Can we host a Skype interview in our booth at the career center?

A.    No. Due to room setup, we need to be considerate of the noise level. Unfortunately, we've had instances where Skype interviews have interrupted other employers interviews. Out of respect for all parties, we ask that if you do schedule a Skype interview that you conduct it outside of the career center.

Q.  Do all interviews take place in the annual meeting career center?

A.    No.  Some employers have a suite or other space of their choosing to  conduct interviews.  We encourage you to inform AAA staff if this is the  case.

We are striving to improve the service we provide both online and at the meeting.  Your input is valuable, so please feel free to pass along suggestions.  Questions? Email: members@americananthro.org.
