American Anthropological Association Climate Change Internship Program
The application for 2018 internships is now open!
The American Anthropological Association is pleased to offer four internship opportunities thanks to the generous support of the Marrella Fund of the Seattle Foundation for 2018.
Internships are for January – November, 2018. Internships are unpaid. However, interns will be able to earn academic credit for a directed service learning/practicum experience, and AAA will provide a stipend to cover the travel expenses to attend the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Conference of Parties-24, in Warsaw, Poland, November 2018.
Interns will work via video teleconference and document sharing platforms under the supervision of Julie Raymond, Idaho State University, and Ed Liebow, American Anthropological Association.
The AAA’s distance internship will bring together a group of students from various locations to form a project team that will create and staff a museum-quality display at the Conference of Parties-24. Students will gain a detailed understanding of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, how anthropological scholarship enhances our understanding of human dimensions of climate change, and how to convey important concepts and research findings for specific and general public audiences.
Students will be working together using a variety of collaborative tools, making it possible to participate from practically any location that is well served by Internet. In addition to the display and presentation materials developed by the team, individual student reports based on the experience will be expected to fulfill each student’s home institution’s degree program requirements.
After reviewing the above information, please proceed to the online application. Students will be asked to acknowledge their commitment to the full term of the internship, and to traveling to participate in the Conference of Parties-24 in November 2018.
