What are Workshops?

Usually, workshops are hosted at the Annual Meeting, but not this year. Since we cancelled the Annual Meeting, we are setting aside a special set of dates and times for holding these workshops. This year, workshops will be hosted following Raising Our Voices, during the weeks of November 30th and December 7th.

Workshops will be available in 2- or 4-hour time slots, but presenters can opt to use less than the full time allotted. Due to all workshops being conducted virtually, the acceptable length of workshops has been adjusted this year to accommodate an accessible virtual environment. Workshops are available under 3 tracks:

  1. Career & Professional Development
  2. Technical Skill Development
  3. Policy Outreach, Engagement, Advocacy

Access Needs and Accommodation Requests

AAA strives to foster accessible virtual spaces. The Accessibility & Meetings Coordinator can help identify if current AAA accessibility protocols will meaningfully support your access needs or if additional accommodations are necessary. Please plan to share your access needs and/or accommodation requests either:

  1. when registering for your chosen workshop(s) or
  2. by emailing accessibility@americananthro.org.

You are not required to disclose your disability (mobility, auditory, sight, sensory, etc.) or identity status (Disabled, Deaf, Autistic, Chronically Ill, Mentally Ill, Aging, etc.), but are welcome to do so if you believe this information will influence the later discussion surrounding your access needs and/or accommodation requests. Please request your accommodations and share your access needs by Wednesday, November 25, 2020, to receive the most effective supports possible. The AAA Accessibility & Meetings Coordinator will follow up with you, whether you requested accommodations via the event registration form or email. In this follow up, they will discuss your needs and identify the best plan moving forward to provide your accommodations.

If during your workshop you have any questions, comments, or concerns related to any accessibility practices or your accommodations, please feel free to call or text the Accessibility & Meetings Coordinator at (703) 239-4499 or contact them via email at accessibility@americananthro.org.

Note: While requests are welcome at any time, please also recognize that requests will most effectively be supported if they are submitted as soon as possible, and where possible, before Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
