The Graduate School Fair takes place each year at the AAA Annual Meeting on Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. It provides a great opportunity for prospective graduate students to speak with faculty and staff representing programs from around the country, and for graduate schools to publicize their programs, network, and meet prospective students.
Students hoping to attend the Graduate School Fair may consider attending the Meeting at a discounted weekend rate. Registration information can be found here.
Departments typically send one or a team of representatives, which could include the chair or director of graduate studies, administrative staff, current students, or other faculty. Anyone who is only coming to represent their department at the grad school fair and not attending other meeting events and sessions is given a complimentary exhibitor registration. There are no presentations to prepare; attendees circulate through the fair and have one-on-one conversations at the tables. Departments often bring a branded tablecloth or banner, brochures or other materials about their programs, and any pens or other swag with their university logo to give away. They can also show visuals (powerpoint presentation, videos) if they bring a fully charged laptop (no electrical hookup can be guaranteed).
Participation in the Grad School Fair is typically a benefit of membership in the AAA’s Department Services Program (DSP). In recognition of the joint AAA/CASCA meetings in 2019, the AAA is offering a year of complimentary DSP membership to any Canadian university department joining DSP for the first time.
To sign up for the Graduate School Fair, department representatives can fill out this online form. If you have any questions, please contact Daniel Ginsberg, the AAA’s Manager of Education, Research & Professional Development.
