It is with a heavy heart and immense sadness that I share the news of Deborah Nichols death from cancer. Deb was much beloved by so many as a colleague, a teacher, and a friend. Her notable career was shaped by professional dedication and by love. She was the William J. Bryant 1925 Professor of Anthropology at Dartmouth College, and in addition to her distinguished research and teaching record, many of us know her for a series of increasingly challenging leadership service responsibilities. Most recently, she served as president of the Society for American Archaeology. She was equally active within the AAA, serving as Section Assembly convener, as an Executive Board member, and as President of the Archaeology Division. Our thoughts are with her husband, John Watanabe, their son Aaron, and an extended family that we know meant so much to Deb.
