AAA Leads Cultural Heritage Advocacy Coalition
In an effort to increase advocacy for the nation's historic preservation program, AAA has joined forces with the Society for Historical Archaeology, the American Cultural Resources Association, and the Society for American Archaeology to form the Coalition for American Heritage.
The coalition will focus on protecting funding for historic preservation, as well as research in history, archaeology, anthropology, and the social sciences. It will also work to advance Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which requires Federal agencies to take into account the effects of their undertakings on historic properties, and afford the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation a reasonable opportunity to comment.
In the current policy environment, AAA has recognized that likeminded organizations need to be organized, focused, and able to leverage a much broader constituency to make our voices heard. We are joining forces with our sister societies because we believe that together we can increase our impact and have a fighting chance of defending our priorities.
AAA’s government relations consultant, Cultural Heritage Partners, in concert with the coalition's Leadership Council, will direct strategy for the coalition and assist in expanding our capacity and influence to advocate for the cultural resource management industry.
