Hints for a successful nomination:
- The personal statement you are asked to submit in the qualifications field of the form should state why the nominee would serve well in a particular position. What special background, experience, expertise, and outlook make the nominee a good candidate? It should not be simply a list of degrees, positions, and projects.
- If you are nominated (self-nominating) for more than one position, each statement should be tailored to the position.
- Previous leadership experience is important, especially for AAA board positions. Mention in your statement and/or Resume/CV your leadership experience both in and out of AAA.
- Support letters are important. They should be substantial and should explain why the nominee would serve well in a particular leadership position. A list of qualifications is not sufficient.
- If you’ve been a nominee in the past but were not selected as a candidate, try again! Each year the pool of nominees is very different, both in numbers and in backgrounds, so each election cycle offers new chances.
- The Nominations Committee makes recommendations based on the materials you present. The richer your materials the better your chances of being selected as a candidate.
