AAA Announces Official Partnership with Wiki Education
The American Anthropological Association (AAA) is thrilled to announce our official partnership with Wiki Education’s Classroom Program. Wikipedia is often the public's first stop for information about anthropology, and the AAA is pleased to have this opportunity to play an important role in ensuring that the content people find when they search for topics related to anthropology is correct and complete.
In Wiki Education’s Classroom Program, university instructors assign students to edit Wikipedia articles, empowering them to share knowledge with the world. In place of a traditional research paper or the literature review section of a longer analytical paper, students will research course-related topics that are missing or underrepresented on Wikipedia, synthesize the available literature, and use Wiki Education's free tools and trainings to promote the inclusion of anthropological perspectives in Wikipedia articles.
Each year, Wiki Education representatives will attend the AAA Annual Meeting to engage educators who may be interested in participating. They will also assist instructors with assignment design and provide support materials during the term, to help students as they improve Wikipedia's coverage of anthropology.
To join this initiative and teach with Wikipedia, email contact@wikiedu.org or contact Daniel Ginsberg using this form to learn more about AAA’s involvement.
