It’s the time of the year when we start looking for new leaders for the AAA Board and other key committees, and I hope that many of you will consider nominating your former favorite AAA Section leaders AND self-nominating yourselves to help us take the AAA where you want it to go!
We've modified the nomination process this year. Moving forward, any AAA member can nominate another AAA member for one of the open positions by filling out a nomination form. The AAA member who is nominated will receive a message from us and then must fill out a form and sign accepting the nomination. Alternatively, any AAA member can self-nominate for an available position, supplying the name of a reference who can write a support letter; this supporter does not have to be a AAA member.
Each nominee or self-nominee may also run for more than one position. However, the member will have to go through the same process of being nominated/self-nominating and then filling out the form to accept running per each position each time.
Before the 2022 AAA Annual Meeting, our Nominations Committee will compose a ballot where two candidates will compete for each position, which the AAA Board could approve, as they have the final say. Those who are not selected to run on the ballot should consider self-nominating again next year for the same or other position, or, even better, for the same AND other positions!
For the Executive Board we are looking for candidates with leadership experience in their sections or places of work; if they have been Chairs, section board members or members of other boards, all the better. This year we are looking for an excellent anthropologist and leader who can be our incoming President-Elect. Please think hard of special people you know as leaders and scholars and consider nominating them for the position. After two years, the President-Elect will become our new AAA President, so we need you to help us find those excellent candidates. We are also looking for individuals to fill the Archaeology Seat, Linguistic Seat, Biological Seat, and an Undesignated Seat.
For MPAAC, the Members’ Programmatic, Advisory, and Advocacy Committee, we are looking for individuals who want to have an impact on the discipline and be members’ advocates. New professionals may want to start their AAA service career in these positions, along with senior members who want to do or wish to continue their ongoing activism and advising. We are looking for individuals to fill the Ethics Seat, World Anthropology Seat, Anti-Racism/Social Justice Seat, and a Student Seat.
The Nominations Committee is probably the most heart-warming committee of the entire AAA since this is where we get to hear and discuss how wonderful our colleagues are. For this committee we need individuals that know a lot of people, so having students, mid-career anthropologists and senior anthropologists is a must. Preferably, they will have some leadership or administrative experience, so they can better judge who will work best in what position. We are looking for individuals to fill the Biological Seat, Linguistic Seat, and an Undesignated Seat.

If you have questions or need assistance with the nomination/application process, please contact Kim Baker, the AAA staff member who supports the Nominations Committee.
Voting for AAA and section elections takes place in April and May.
